Career Changers
Are you thinking of making the shift to a digital career? No matter what your background or experience might be, a rewarding new digital career could take you anywhere in the Tasmanian State Service.
The best part? Changing careers doesn’t have to mean starting over. You might have transferable skills to help you get started in your new digital career.
What is the Skills Framework for the Information Age?
The Tasmanian State Service uses the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) to define the skills and competencies required by professionals who design, develop, implement, manage and protect the data and technology that power the digital world.
It can be used to help understand:
- What skill you might need to learn.
- How skills change between job roles and levels.
- What skills can be transferred.
- What skills might need to be upgraded.
The Tasmanian State Service uses SFIA to map skills across our digital jobs. The Australian Government also uses the SFIA. This information is used to inform the Career Pathfinder tool to help people explore digital and other career options in government.

How can I upskill?
There are different ways to get new skills to help you start your digital career with the Tasmanian State Service.
Here are some options:
- Complete a Vocational Education and Training (VET) short course.
- Join an industry organisation to network and get access to short courses, attend events and meetups and other resources.
- Study an industry micro-credential to help bridge any skill gaps.
- Undertake a short course/micro-credential at a university such as the new Graduate Certificate in Digital Health.
You have options available to you, and there’s not one pathway that fits everyone! Visit our Education and Training page to learn more.
