Cyber Security Pathways in the Tasmanian State Service
Typically a cyber security career starts via an ICT entry job role that helps you develop the skills and competencies and employability skills such as incident management, customer service support, problem solving, service level management, supplier/vendor communication between the organisation and the suppliers. Many security related skills are required in ICT roles which enable you gain the valuable hands-on experience necessary for a specialist cyber security role.
Typically these entry level roles require foundational education and training with a University or TAFE course in ICT or cyber security to develop the knowledge. Valuable applied knowledge is gained through Catch the Flag initiatives, work experience and work placements.
It also helps to further develop your cyber security skills by undertaking micro-credentials short course and seek security related projects to get involved within the workplace.
Overtime these skills and competencies become the foundation to launch into a cyber security specialist role.
