re_BOOTCMP Tasmania Pilot Program - EOIs Close 23 May!
Program overview
The re_B00TCMP program is a free one-day event being piloted across Australia by the AFP-led Joint Policing Cybercrime Coordination Centre (JPC3). In an age where digital technology plays a central role in our lives, re_B00TCMP emerges as an innovative and proactive initiative. Its aim is to nurture and guide the talents of young, tech-savvy individuals towards positive and constructive use of their digital skills.
Following the successful delivery of Australia’s first re_B00TCMP pilot program in Sydney last year, the JPC3, in close partnership with Tasmania Police and the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet, will be hosting Tasmania’s pilot program in Hobart.
When: Monday, 23 June 2025
Where: Cyber Innovation Training Hub, TasTAFE, 75 Campbell Street, Hobart
Throughout the one-day program, attendees engage in a series of presentations and workshops, conducted by professionals and mentors from law enforcement, academia, the cyber security sector, and the IT and software industry.
These presentations enable young individuals to grasp the potential positive avenues for their IT skills, while understanding the importance of adhering to legal boundaries. The program also includes gaming sessions with the mentors and a digital challenge, offering participants an opportunity to engage with mentors and test their skills in a positive and ethical environment.
Parents and teachers are also offered a parallel half day program that delves into the basics of online safety, ethical use of the internet and how to proactively support their child/student’s passion for IT. These sessions are tailored to provide them with the knowledge and tools to facilitate meaningful discussions about digital behaviour and to support their children or students in their digital endeavours.
Goals and objectives
re_B00TCMP aims to establish a comprehensive educational framework for youth, emphasising the importance of legal and ethical online conduct. The program is not just about imparting knowledge; it's about inspiring young minds to channel their passion for IT into positive, lawful, and socially beneficial activities.
The primary objectives of re_B00TCMP are to:
- Develop an understanding of online boundaries;
- Equip young people with the knowledge to legally and positively utilise their digital skills;
- Build a positive re_B00T community for students and mentors;
- Create awareness of the impact of cyber crime on victims;
- Cultivate an understanding that online activities leave traces;
- Encourage young people to utilise their digital skills positively by engaging in IT training, internships, and jobs; and
- Equip parents/teachers to initiate discussions about online behaviour with their children/students.
Target audience
The program specifically caters to high school students, focusing on those who display a strong interest and aptitude in IT and may exhibit a curiosity towards online boundaries. This age group is particularly vulnerable and impressionable, making them ideal candidates for positive direction and guidance.
Students who demonstrate the following characteristics are encouraged to apply:
- High school students: This age bracket is crucial as it is often when initial engagement in cyber activities and potential online misconduct begins. The tendency for impulsive and boundary pushing behaviour is more pronounced in early teens, making this an opportune time for positive intervention to direct their path towards constructive use of their skills.
- Highly skilled and interested in IT: Ideal candidates are those who have shown a keen interest and talent in IT. This includes students who are not only curious about technology but are also eager to learn and explore more in this field.
- Motivation to engage with the program: It's important for potential participants to show real enthusiasm for being part of re_B00TCMP. Their willingness to learn and participate actively in the program is key to its success.
